Clinical Findings, Laboratory And Radiological Evaluation In Prostatitis
Dr. Adnan ŞİMŞİR,a Dr. Çağ ÇALa
a Üroloji AD, Ege Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İZMİR Prostatitis, which affects men in all ages, is a common inflammatory disease of the prostate. Although prostatitis is not an infrequent disease, there is a limited improvement established about the causes of the disease and its treatment in recent years. The classification of the prostatitis with four subgroups would be helpful to determine the diagnosis and the treatment. First category is an urgent condition. The clinical findings, routine blood and urine analysis will be enough for the diagnosis. The remission and exacerbation periods are the clinical characteristics of category-2 prostatitis patients. The four-glass test, described by Mearas and Stamey is frequently used in patients, suspected for category-2 disease, will be the guide to the treatment. The category-3 is the most common form of the prostatitis and divided into two groups as whether the prostate secrete contains leukocytes or not. The grouping is not meaningful for both the clinical and treatment decisions. There is no laboratory and radiological procedures to establish the diagnosis. It is much important to follow the clinical improvement with symptom scales. If the prostatitis is incidentally detected during the histopathological evaluation of the prostate specimens without any clinical symptoms, it will be named as category-4 and the treatment of these patients isn't mandatory. Keywords: Prostatitis, laboratory, radiological, classificationTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2005, 1(1):6-11
