Conventional Methods For Surgical Treatment Of Bph: Turp, Tuip And Tuvp
Dr. N. Aydın MUNGANa
a Üroloji AD, Zonguldak Karaelmas Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ZONGULDAK Aim of this review is provide updated information regarding the current role of conventional methods (TURP, TUIP and TUVP) for surgical treatment of BPH. All surgical conventional methods result in significant subjective and objective improvments. Complication rates are in acceptable range. These methods have been compared each others in several randomized controlled trials. However, the rates of some complications appear to be higher and long-term comparative trials are needed.Compared to TURP, TUVP results in equivalent short-term clinical improvements. In the first 12 months after surgery TUIP has effectiveness that is equivalent to TURP with less complication rates for treating patients patients with BPH who have relatively small prostate with no median lobe. However, there is little evidence on relative long-term effectiviness. Consequently, the choose of surgical conventional methods has to be tailored for each patients who has suffered from BPH as considering benefits and harms of method. Keywords: BPH, TURP, TUIP, TUVPTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2005, 1(1):87-93
