aÜro-Tıp Tanı Merkezi, İSTANBULbÜroloji AD, Kocaeli Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, KOCAELİ Due to very poor prognosis of metastatic renal cell carcinoma with a median survival rate of 6-12 months, surgery is considered standart treatment in localized and metastatic disease. Attempts to treat metastatic renal cell carcinoma have been unsuccessful. A few chemoterapeutic agents have limited response. Currently, if surgery is unsuitable combination of interleukin-2 and interferon-α are acceptable treatment modality. But, the success of this treatment modality is low and short-lived. Recent advances in proliferation-inhibiting agents in the management of metastatic renal cell carcinoma have been an option and hope. In this review, the treatment options of metastatic renal cell carcinoma is summarized according to the most recent literature. Keywords: Metastatic renal cell carcinoma, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, combination treatment, reviewTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2005, 1(9):16-23
