Cadaveric Donor Management And Organ Procurement
Dr. Hakan VURUŞKANa
aÜroloji AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Cadaveric renal transplantation requires an extensive network of health care individuals to facilitate the recognition of brain death, procurement, preservation and transport of kidney grafts. Brain death is defined as complete and irreversible loss of brain and brain stem function. Following the declaration of brain death, the consent for organ donation is obtained from the next kin by the local coordinator. The management of the patient changes to maximize the function of the donor organs. A systolic blood pressure greater than 100 mmHg, PaO2 greater than 100 mmHg and hourly urine output greater than 100 mL\hr are good parameters for donor management. In multiple organ recovery good co-ordination between various surgical teams are essential. Kidneys are the last organs to be recovered in multiple organ recovery. The time to procure each solid organ should be minimized to decrease any unnecessary ischaemic injury. Keywords: Cadaveric renal transplantation, brain death, donor management, organ procurementTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(21):18-20
