Living Donor Candidate Preparation And Nephrectomy
Dr. Yakup KORDAN,a Dr. İsmet YAVAŞÇAOĞLUa
aÜroloji AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Renal transplantation is considered the definitive and preferred treatment modality in end stage renal disease. Renal transplantation can be performed successively to patients between the age of 6 months and 70 years and provides a better quality of life and improved survival. Even though the number of transplantations is increasing worldwide, donated organ shortage remains as the major problem. Although the the donor demands of many countries are supplied by heart beating cadaveric donors, in other countries, including our country, living donors act as a major source for transplantation. The technical advance of laparoscopic nephrectomy and immunologic maneuvers that can overcome biologic obstacles such as HLA disparity and ABO or cross-match incompatibity have helped to increase living kidney donation. The identification of absolute contraindications and abnormalities which would increase perioperative risk carries importance and such risk factors should be sought in the medical pre-transplant evaluation of the potential donors. Even though suggestions have been made in the literature for evaluation of the potential donor, it hasn’t reached to an uniform consensus yet. Keywords: Renal transplantation, living donor, donor preparation, donor nephrectomyTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(21):21-25
