Seeking New Immunosuppressive Regimens In Kidney Transplantation
Dr. Alpaslan ERSOYa
aNefroloji BD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA The advent of new, potent immunosuppressive drugs over the past ten years has substantially reduced the risk of rejection after kidney transplantation. Monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies are increasingly being used in the induction phase in protocols where steroids are discontinued early. Minimizing calcineurin inhibitors may have similar or better advantages, and side effects and toxicity leading to graft loss may decrease. The use of new drugs and combinations has greatly improved transplant success rates both in the short and medium terms. In this article, novel regimen strategies in the literature are reviewed. Keywords: Kidney transplantation, immunosuppression, treatmentTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(21):39-44
