The Surgical Technique Of Renal Transplantation
Dr. Bülent OKTAY,a Dr. Hakan VURUŞKANa
aÜroloji AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA The surgical approaches for performing renal transplantation include the pelvic approach, the lower abdominal approach, and the orthotopic lumbar approach. The most commonly used is the standard pelvic transplant, with retroperitoneal placement of the kidney allowing easy access and clinical monitoring following transplantation. The venous anastomosis is performed first, running the renal vein end to side to the external iliac vein using a continuous 5-0 Prolene suture. The arterial anastomosis is performed in an end-to-end fashion between the renal artery and the internal iliac artery. The extravesical ureteroneocystostomy technique which was described by Lich and Gregoir is the most favored approach for re-establishing urinary tract continuity in renal transplantation. Keywords: Renal transplantation, surgical techniqueTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(21):45-47
