The Role Of Fine Needle Biopsy In The Diagnosis And Follow Up Renal Transplantation
Dr. Sibel AKERa
aPatoloji AD, Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, BURSA Renal biopsies on transplanted kidneys are performed to determine: whether the failure of the graft is due to rejection, nephrotoxicity caused by immunosuppressive drugs, or the other causes such as acute tubuler necrosis, acut infectious pyelonephritis, obstruction of the vasculature or recurrent diseases; if rejection is present, to evaluate the intensity and nature of the rejection, and to predict the potential reversibility of the lesions with therapy.
Despite the increasing success of renal transplantation acut and cronic graft rejections are still the leading problems. Early allograft biopsy is safe and, promptly treated may rescue the graft. Each organ transplant center should develop invaziv and non-invaziv technique protocols to evaluate the post-transplant disfonctions. The biopsies in this protocol are valuable in the diagnosis and follow-up of the rejections, but most of the organ transplant centers are not using this proctocol in the rautine clinic. Keywords: Renal transplantation, banff classificationTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(21):79-81
