The Costs Of Renal Replacement Therapy And Renal Transplantation Outcome

Treatments of chronic renal failure, and particularly dialysis, are expensive methods due to their dependence on international technologies. When patient numbers are taken into consideration, these treatment methods have to be used effectively. In our country, kidney replacement treatments are largely under the government’s social security. According to the budget implementation commission, kidney transplantation is a method that is not only medically superior, but also economically advantageous.
While the 5 year life expectancy of a patient is in the 60%’s in dialysis treatments, with renal transplantation, this ratio goes up to 90% in live donors and 75% in cadaver donor transplantation.Keywords: Renal transplantation, dialysisTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2006, 2(21):87-88
