aÜroloji AD, İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Technological development in laparoscopic urology and use of the better visualization systems are the most important factors affecting the success rate of the procedure. As mentioned in 2002 EAU laparoscopy guideline, basic laparoscopic instruments are divided into 2 groups; the basic mandatory equipment and the basic specific instruments. Basic mandatory equipment includes monitor, video camera unit, light source and CO2 insufflator. Devices used for access, dissection, suction, irrigation, suturing, organ retrieval, working room and haemostasis are accepted as the specific basic instruments. Instrument selection depends on the surgeon. It is usually recommended that comfortable and familiar devices should be used by the surgeon. In addition, at least two sets of laparoscopic device must be available in the operating room in case it may be broken during the surgery.
In this report, we review the basic access techniques and basic equipment which needed during the laparoscopic surgery. Keywords: Laparoscopy; surgical instrumentsTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(4):11-16
