This reliable technique is providing excellent endoscopic vision of the pelvic anatomy, allows fine dissection of the prostate and appropriate reconstruction of the urinary tract. Operative and postoperative morbidity rates are low at selected organ confined prostate cancer cases. Postoperative pain is minimal and the length of hospital stay is short. The oncologic results seem satisfactory based on short-term follow up when compared with open surgery. And also continence and potency rates are comparable with open surgery. The learning curve of laparoscopy is long and depends on experience. The intracorporeal suturing technique is hard and also needs experience.
The technique named as Montsourius is first developed by Guillonneau and Vallancien, regarded as the pioneer of other laparoscopic prostatectomy techniques. Laparoscopic radical prostatectomy is now performed routinely and is proposed as a first-line surgical treatment modality for localized prostate cancer at the authors’ center. Keywords: Prostate cancer, laparoscopic transperitoneal radical prostatectomyTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(4):17-22
