Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy has been a widely used technique for surgical removal of the small and medium sized benign lesions in adrenal since its first definition in 1992. More than 1000 literatures proved its safety and efficiency. When compared with open surgery, it has some advantages as shorter hospitalization period, lesser analgesic need and a very short period of recovery. Biochemically it contains functional adrenal tumors; tumors producing aldosterone; tumors producing cortisol; pheochromocytomas and primer adneral hyperplasia. In spite of being a discussed subject, the operation might be done laparoscopically if the tumor is small in the adrenocortical malign cases whether it is metastasis or primary.Keywords: Laparoscopy, adrenalectomyTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(4):62-67
