Diagnosis And Management Of Urethral Injuries
Dr. Demokan EROL,a Dr. Melih SUNAYa
a1.Üroloji Kliniği, Ankara Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, ANKARA Blood at the urethral meatus and the inability to void are important clues in an urethral injury. Although the type of trauma and the findings of physical examination may give additional information about the urethral injury, the most valuable information about the urethral injury is provided by the retrograde urethrography. The urethral injury frequently depends on the blunt traumas such as straddle-type falls and injuries caused by pelvic fractures. The achievement of the treatment is produced by the accurate planning of initial assessment and attempt. The complications associated with posterior urethral injury such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence are related to vascular and neural injuries that occurred on initial trauma than the effect of surgical intervention. The management attempts that performed by inexperienced physicians without adequate assessment complicate the issue and increase the complication rates. Keywords: Genitourinary trauma, urethral injury, pelvic fractureTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(21):34-42
