Aging And Erectile Dysfunction

aÜroloji ABD, Marmara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, İSTANBUL Population is aging faster than our expectancy. The prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) increases as men age and it bothers quality of life. Data from the Massachusetts Male Aging Study has indicated that the prevalence of erectile dysfunction of any degree is 39%in men 40 years old, and 67%in those aged 70 years. Simultaneously, age related changes occur in aging male. Among the most commonly recognized conditions associated are late onset hipogonadism, Diabettes Mellitus, urinary tract problems, cardiovascular diseases, hipertension, other chronic disease states, routine use of prescribing drugs and metabolic sendrom which related to ED. Aging can affect both sexual response and desire between partners. Although the erectile dysfunction accepted as an inevitable result of aging, understanding of pathophysiology and treatment of concomitent conditions can positively effect sucess of treatment and increase quality of life of aging male.Keywords: Aging, impotence, chronic diseaseTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(38):9-14
