aÜroloji ABD, Selçuk Üniversitesi Meram Tıp Fakültesi, KONYA Penile erection involves a complex interaction between the central nervous system and local factors. Corporal smooth muscle relaxation of penile arteries and corpus cavernosum leads to penile erection, results from parasympathetic/nonadrenergic noncholinergic neural pathway activation and sympathetic inhibition. Erectile dysfunction is caused by a variety of pathogenic factors, a thorough knowledge of the physiology and pathophysiology of erection is essential. The physiology of penile erection and the pathophysiology of erectile dysfunction is reviewed in this article. Keywords: Impotence, physiology, physiopathologyTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(38):15-19
