Surgical Treatment Of Erectile Dysfunction
Dr. Kadri ANAFARTAa
aÜroloji ABD, Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, ANKARA Surgical treatment of ED is usually reserved for patients whom more conservative therapy has failed. Most of these patients will have arterial or venous disease, cavernosal fibrosis, or will, by choice, prefer the prospect of a “one-off” solution.
Two surgical options are available;
● Implantation of a penile prosthesis
● Corpus cavernosum revascularisation for arterial abnormalities
Success of surgical intervention may be more reliable in selected cases but the incidence of morbidity and complications is greater than with medical treatment.
Penile prostheses are classified as either malleable or inflatable.
As high blood flow rates produce erectile function in the corpora cavernosa, the integrity of arterial supply is critical for normal erection. Patients with arterial lesions (usually acquired travmatically) are suitable for penile arterial revascularisation .Keywords: Erectile dysfunction, penile prostheses, revascularisationTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(38):38-44
