Premature Ejaculation
Dr. Tahir TURANa
aÜroloji ABD, Pamukkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, DENİZLİ Although premature ejaculation (PE) is considered a common male sexual dysfunction, it is often an underreported and untreated condition. PE may be a problem for as many as two thirds of men at some time in their life. I was believed to be mainly a psychological disorder for the first half of the 20th century. Today, although lifelong or primary PE is regarded to be highly neurobiologically determined, and acquired PE may have both medical and a psychological basis, the etiologies of both types of PE are still not completely understood. Our current understanding of the neurobiological basis of PE was reached primarily through animal studies and, particularly in the 1990s, through an increasing number of drug treatment studies with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and clomipramine. This review aims to increase awareness about a novel treatment for PE and its possible impact on the patient as well as patient-partner relationshipsKeywords: Premature ejaculation, sexual dysfunction, IELT, serotoninTurkiye Klinikleri J Surg Med Sci 2007, 3(38):50-56
